In an interview with gaming company GGRECON, ex-Liverpool defender Glen Johnson has tipped Arsenal to finish above Tottenham this season. Spurs finished last season in fine form, with Antonio Conte’s side thrashing Norwich City 5-0 on the final day of the season in order to seal a fourth-placed finish at the expense of North London rivals Arsenal (BBC). Following an extra capital increase worth £150 million (The Athletic), the Lilywhites have appeased Conte’s demands thus far in the transfer market, recently adding their sixth summer signing in the shape of wing-back Djed Spence (Football.London).
He said he’s going to go Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester United sixth. He added that he does not think Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester United can break into the top three, so those positions are already boxed off. It is thought thhat Arsenal have had a solid transfer window so far, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if they improved upon their points tally from last season.
However, when you look at the way in which Spurs ended the season under Conte’s leadership, the new additions to the squad, and the fitness levels being attained in pre-season training, the best bet is that Spurs will once more triumph over the Gunners. Of course, the season is just starting so there is still a long way to go.
