Glen Johnson said Lampard could have also achieved similar results as his successor Thomas Tuchel if not for the players. The former Liverpool, Chelsea and West Ham United right-back wondered how the players could perform well for the new manager.

Chelsea decided to sack club legend Lampard as their manager earlier this year after a poor run of form in the league on the back of the over £200m spent on talents. Lampard had led the Blues to fourth place at the end of his first Premier League campaign as he coped well with the transfer ban slammed on the club.He then started the second season well before things fell apart for him on the way to his sack.

Since replacing Lampard as the new Chelsea manager, Tuchel has done a fantastic job leading the team to both the FA Cup and the UEFA Champions League finals. He also led the Blues to fourth place at the end of the just concluded Premier League campaign.

Tuchel lost the FA Cup final to Leicester City as Belgian national team midfielder YouriTielemans scored the only goal of the game for the Foxes in a 1-0 win at the Wembley Stadium. The German tactician then led Chelsea to a second Champions League title by beating Manchester City 1-0 in the latest final at the EstadioDragaoin Porto on Saturday. His compatriot Kai Havertz scored the only goal of the match for Chelsea.
